Michael G. Maistros Pioneer awards The OHCA Pioneer Award is designed to recognize Ohioans influential in the development and advancement of long-term care programs, education, professionalism or ideals. The Awards honor the commitment of these individuals to excellence in long-term care services.





MICHAEL G. MAISTROS

The second-generation owner and operator of Bell Nursing Home in Belmont, Ohio, Michael G. Maistros has a long history supporting independent long-term care providers in Ohio and nationwide. After leaving the US Marine Corps in 1961, Maistros became involved in the family business. In 1968 Mike opened the nursing facility with his father Gust, and became licensed as an administrator in 1971. The facility has remained a modest 52 beds since its original transformation from a motel, and is recognized along with its owner as a major asset of the community.

Mike has been involved in OHCA for more than a quarter century, and has served on many committees and in every elected office; he was elected OHCA President in 1983. He has also served in various capacities with the American Health Care Association, as a member of the Board, Executive Committee, and as Independent Owner Vice President in 1993. He has also participated in governmental groups involved in health care, serving as a delegate to the 1981 and 1995 White House Conference on Aging, as a Trustee to the area Health Systems Agency and Mental Health Federation, and as chairman, advisor and member of a variety of committees, colleges and training centers.

His local civic duty is also lengthy, with involvement as President in the Ohio Jaycees, local Rotary and church activities highlighting an impressive list of memberships and participation.

Mike continues to operate Bell Nursing Home, and resides with his wife Mary at their home in St. Clairsville. Children Michelle, Melanie and Michael have all participated in the facilities activities during their youth, and have now moved on to independent careers.
