Case Studies in Dysphagia Treatment and Reduction of Rehospitalizations

Level: Intermediate

Reducing rehospitalizations is a key goal of skilled nursing facilities. An un-recognized co-diagnosis of dysphagia often contributes to the intensity of the top eight readmission diagnoses. When dysphagia is diagnosed and treated, it less likely that the complications of dysphagia will contribute to conditions requiring hospitalizations. This session will review cases where Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) was used to assess dysphagia, determine the plan of treatment and make diet recommendations. Patient outcomes will also be shared. Both clinicians and administrators will find value in attending this session as there are real bottom-line implications to re-hospitalizations
