OHCA's Heroes of Long Term Care program honors individual employees for their service to residents, the facility, and to their community. Heroes are nominated from service and supports providers throughout Ohio. 

Millersburg Nurse Aide Named September 2019 Long-Term Care “Hero”

The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Millersburg, Ohio long-term care nurse aide as its September 2019 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”

Brenda Rothenstine, state tested nurse aide (STNA) at Altercare Majora Lane, Millersburg, Ohio, has been selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for September 2019. OHCA honors one long-term care employee each month for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.
Rothenstine will be featured on the OHCA website ( during the month of September, and she will be recognized at the Association’s 2020 Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Chad Giauque, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at Altercare Majora Lane, says that Rothenstine is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.

"Brenda has been tenderly caring for the residents at Altercare Majora Lane for over 11 years, and is one of the primary reasons the facility is noted for outstanding care and resident satisfaction," said Giauque. "She is humble and goes about her job efficiently and effortlessly. because it isn't a job to her -- it's a way of being."

Other employees at Majora Lane recognize Rothenstine's unique qualities, and she serves as a mentor aide contributing to low turnover; as a weight aide serving on the nursing/dietary committee, and is a model customer service example, readily attending to residents and their families in a professional, caring and happy manner.

Rothenstine also takes time for self-improvement, certified in CPR, first aid, disease and child development. In the community, Rothenstine is a Girl Scout leader, participates in Alzheimer's Association Activities, and is a Bible study teacher and leader.

"Brenda does not make it about her; it's the people she is entrusted to care for. That is evident in the smiles she evokes from her residents, co-workers and others every day," said Giauque.

"She has been nominated for this award because she best exemplifies all that is good about the very important role of a nursing assistant. She is professional, dependable, consistent and kind . . . Brenda is truly our Hero of Long Term Care!"

Altercare Majora Lane is located in Millersburg in the heart of Holmes County. The facility provides therapy and medical care after surgery or illness, including orthopedic, cardiovascular and CVA stroke care. Private therapy rooms are provided for patients transitioning home. Majora Lane also offers care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementias in a secured environment.
