Heroes of Long Term Care

OHCA's Heroes of Long Term Care program honors individual long-term care employees for their service to residents, the facility, and to their community. Heroes are nominated from long-term care facilities throughout Ohio.

Loudonville, Ohio Woman Named September 2017 Long-Term Care “Hero”

The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Loudonville, Ohio Habilitation Aide as its September 2017 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”

Denise King, Habilitation Aide at Jac-Lin Manor, Loudonville, has been selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for September 2017. OHCA honors one long-term care employee each month for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.
King will be featured on the OHCA website ( during the month of September, and will be recognized at the Association’s 2018 Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Bert MacQueen, Licensed Administrator (LNHA)  at Jac-Lin Manor, says that King is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.

"Denise is a passionate, hardworking employee and her willingness to help out without being asked doesn’t go unnoticed,” said MacQueen. “She shows compassion to the residents and their families, and has earned the respect of her co-workers.”

King has worked for 14 years as a habilitation aide at Jac-Lin Manor. She enjoys working with the facility’s intellectually and developmentally disabled population, and has found it to be rewarding. 

“Denise is known to come in early and stay over to help out whenever she is needed,” said Sue Long, Marketing Director. “The residents all know her by name and enjoy spending time with her.”

King serves on the Jac-Lin Manor Safety Committee, and has been awarded the facility’s “Employee of the Month” several times. In addition to her work King is involved in her grandchildren’s activities and is a supporter of the organizations in which they participate.

King was nominated for this award for her countless hours of hard work and her dedication, said Long. “She provides the residents with a positive atmosphere and companionship. Denise is truly the definition of a Hero of Long Term Care, and deserves this recognition for all her hard work and compassion!”

Jac-Lin Manor is an intermediate care facility (ICF-MR) specializing in providing care for 32 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The facility is located at 695 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue in Loudonville, Ohio 44842; phone 419-994-5700. 

The Ohio Health Care Association is a non-profit association of more than 900 skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and providers serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, representing nearly 90,000 individuals. Many OHCA members also provide a variety of home and community-based services.  OHCA is the largest long-term care association in the state, and the only chartered Ohio affiliate of the American Health Care Association, representing more than 12,000 long-term care facilities nationwide.
