Decreasing Facility Opioid Use with Therapy Interventions

Level: Intermediate

In 2015 Opioid overdose killed more people than car accidents and gun accidents combined. Ohio is a hotbed of opioid abuse and unintentional overdoses, ranking sixth out of 50 states in overdoses and deaths. While the youth is falling victim to injectables, the geriatric population is succumbing to prescription pills. Seniors who abuse prescription medication are often overlooked because the prescribers are less concerned with their long-term benefit, and more concerned with managing their pain. Non-medicinal interventions can reduce or eliminate pain and reduce or eliminate dangerous doses of medications that impact seniors' quality and quantity of life.
