Brookville Aide Named September 2016 Long-Term Care “Hero”

The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Brookville, Ohio Nurse Aide as its July 2016 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”

Brandy Suter, State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) and Scheduler at Brookhaven Retirement Community, Brookville, Ohio has been selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for September 2016. OHCA honors one long-term care employee each month for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.
Suter will be featured on the OHCA website ( during the month of September, and will be recognized at the Association’s 2017 Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Brii Slaughter, Assistant Administrator at Brookhaven, says that Suter is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.

"Brandy’s vast knowledge of Brookhaven’s community, residents and staff has been a key part to Brookhaven’s accomplishments,” said Slaughter. “Brandy is the staff member who will stay the extra hours to finish a project, help a co-worker, pick up shifts on the floor or find the right person to help address a problem.”

An STNA for more than 16 years, she was recently promoted to Scheduler where she has thrived and became the face to know among the staff – and by the residents.

“Brandy has been one of the many faces the residents have grown to love, especially in our memory care unit,” Slaughter indicated. “Brandy has prided herself to become an advocate for the residents of this community, and become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

In addition to her work at Brookhaven, Brandy is involved in her husband’s restaurants, and volunteers regularly in the community, especially with her contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association and with her son’s school and other activities.

“Brandy has been nominated for this award because of her outstanding performance and dedication to Brookhaven Retirement Community,” Slaughter added. “Brandy consistently goes above and beyond, is an exceptional resident advocate, is well known and always makes sure that everyone has a smile and a friend to talk to. She is truly our hero of long-term care!”
