Pam Shipe, State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) at Manorcare Health Services, Barberton, Ohio has been selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for November 2016. OHCA honors one long-term care employee each month for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.
Shipe will be featured on the OHCA website (www.ohca.org) during the month of November, and will be recognized at the Association’s 2017 Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
Miranda James, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at Manorcare, says that Shipe is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.
"Pam is extremely caring and compassionate, and truly loves her residents,” said James. “If my mother needed care, I would want Pam to take care of her!”
An employee at Manorcare for 28 years, Shipe has mentored many staff members and contributed to the overall longevity of the staff at the facility.
Shipe’s residents always look forward to the days she works. “Pam comes to work every day with a smile on her face,” says James. “She has a wonderful way of individualizing care to each resident and making them feel special . . . she is also a true team player and treats her co-workers with respect."
In addition to her work at Manorcare, Shipe enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She treats her residents as an extension of her family.
The team at Manorcare indicates that Shipe is the type of employee who works hard and never complains or looks for recognition.
“It is time she received the recognition she deserves!” said James. “We are so lucky to have an employee like Pam . . . they broke the mold when they made her! – she is definitely our hero!”
