Alliance Dietary Aide Named June 2018 Long-Term Care “Hero”

The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored an Alliance, Ohio dietary aide as its June 2018 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”

Dorothy "Dot" Mergenthaler, Dietary Aide at Altercare of Alliance, has been selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for June, 2018. OHCA honors one long-term care employee each month for their service to caregivers, residents and the community. 

Mergenthaler will be featured on the OHCA website during the month of June, and will be recognized at the Association’s Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio. 

David Tikkanen, Licensed Administrator for Altercare of Alliance, says that Mergenthaler is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.

"Dot has dedicated over 23 years to the residents of Altercare of Alliance," Tikkanen said. "An exemplary and valued team member, Dot displays a level of commitment that few others can boast." 

Staff and residents and the facility depend on Mergenthaler and trust that her work will always be professional and correct. Recognized as knowledgeable by her co-workers, she ensures the residents have what they like, need, and are supposed to have according to their diets.

The mother of six with seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Mergenthaler spends her time outside Altercare participating in school events, her church, crochet, swimming and badminton, and other community events.

"Dot ensures that the residents who come for short term stays, or those who stay for extended periods of time, receive individual attention," said Caroline McNeal, Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor at Altercare. "Dot is an unselfish team player who will go the extra mile to satisfy the residents she provides services for on a daily basis." 

According to co-workers, Anderson is hard working and willing to help our wherever needed.

"Dot is a kind and caring person, and is a wonderful part of our team," said Tikkanen" "Her love for residents and her work make her our Hero of Long Term Care!"

Located in the heart of Carnation City, Altercare of Alliance specializes in short-term rehabilitation, orthopedic, cardiovascular and CVA/stroke. The facility has been recognized by the American Health Care Association with the silver award recognizing achievement in quality.
