Defiance Nurse Named September 2012 Long-Term Care “Hero”
The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Defiance, Ohio woman as its September 2012 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”
Penny Tressler, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center, Defiance, was selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for the month of September, 2012. The organization chooses one long-term care employee each month to honor for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.
Tressler will be honored at the Association’s 2013 Annual Convention in Columbus, and will be featured on the OHCA website during the month of September.
Michael Adams, LNHA, Administrator at Twin Rivers, says that Tressler is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.
“Penny has a great attention to detail in resident care,” says Adams. “She can answer any question about her residents, is professional in her work and knowledgeable in the nursing field.”
Tressler has been with Twin Rivers for 16 years, spending the first 5 years as a nurse aide before achieving her nursing licensure. In that time she has made an impact on the employees, the residents, the facility and the community.
“Penny has continued to serve our residents, families and her peers as the third shift charge nurse,” said Belinda Groppi, Regional HR Director for Sun Health Care, which operates Twin Rivers. “Her dedication to the center and residents is evidenced by her having been absent only one day in the last 5 years . . . she takes pride in her work, and our residents comfort and peace of mind prove that.”
“Penny mentors newly hired nurses and nurse aides to ensure they perform to her expectations,” said Groppi. “She will not ask anyone to do something she will not do herself.”
“Penny is a hard worker and deserves recognition for all that she does,” said Adams. “She is truly one of our heroes of long-term care!”
