The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Van Wert, Ohio woman as its June 2012 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”
Tina Hulbert, Office Manager at Van Wert Manor, Van Wert, was selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for the month of June, 2012. The organization chooses one long-term care employee each month to honor for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community. Hulbert will be honored at the Association’s 2013 Annual Convention in Columbus.
Jacque Welch, LNHA, Administrator at Van Wert Manor, says that Hulbert is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.
“Tina Hulbert is a hero in every way possible,” says Welch. “Every day she exceeds in service excellence with her positive attitude and team approach to everything she does.”
Hulbert has been with Van Wert Manor for 17 years, working as a State Tested Nurse Aide, Human Resource Coordinator and now as Business Office Manager. “Tina has been a leader here for many years,” Welch said. “She is an expert that many go to for advice when they need assistance.”
According to Welch, Hulbert is the first to volunteer, and takes it upon herself to help coordinate all the operations of Van Wert Manor to ensure that everything functions. She treats everyone with respect and dignity, but also views them as family.In addition to her work at the facility, Hulbert recognized a need for public education and became a “community expert” in helping seniors and others understand Medicare coverage, managed care plans and insurance policies.
“She works very had with no reward . . . just to help the community members out knowing that she is making their lives a little bit better.” Welch talks about the story of an individual bringing in two shoe boxes, a plastic bag and purse full of receipts, statements and health benefit forms and saying “help!” “Many people would say they don’t have time, but Tina stepped right in,” says Welch.
Hulbert is also active in community volunteer programs, holiday activities, soccer and middle school, and collecting items for the Caring and Sharing program for needy Seniors.
“Tina was nominated because of her had work and dedication . . . she is always willing to pick up and help out when she can,” said Welch. “She is truly our hero of long-term care!”
