OHCA's Heroes of Long Term Care program honors individual long-term care employees for their service to residents, the facility, and to their community. Heroes are nominated from long-term care facilities throughout Ohio.

The state’s largest organization representing long-term care facilities has honored a Sandusky, Ohio nurse as its May 2013 “Hero of Long-Term Care.”

Shannon Bloomingkemper, LPN, Resident Services Manager at Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky, was selected by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for the month of May, 2013.  The organization chooses one long-term care employee each month to honor for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.

Bloomingkemper will be honored at the Association’s 2014 Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio, and will be featured on the OHCA website (www.ohca.org) during the month of April.

Ken Keller, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at Parkvue, says that Bloomingkemper is passionate about serving the facility’s residents and the community.

“Shannon is a leader, and turned the management of the building into something the residents and staff are proud of,” said Keller.  “She has the compassion to listen to resident and staff needs, and makes herself available 24/7.”

Bloomingkemper started with Parkvue in 2011 as a floor nurse.  She took the position of LPN Resident Services Manager in July 2012. Her mother has worked at Parkvue since 1995, and she has grown up in and around long-term care services.

Audrey Shafer, a resident at Parkvue and the individual who initiated the nomination, says that “Shannon has the gift of knowing that the important things in life are your family, your children, your health, religious beliefs and your friends.”  Shafer, who has a long history with Parkvue, says that she could tell Bloomingkemper was dynamic when she first arrived.

“She makes us all realize that Parkvue is the place where we want to spend the rest of our lives,” Shafer added.  “She has a positive, inspiring and empowering influence on residents and staff alike.  In short, we all want to do our best for Shannon!”

In addition to her duties at Parkvue, Bloomingkemper is a massage therapist, and is well known in the community.

Parkvue is part of United Church Homes, and has supported Sandusky area seniors For 20 years, providing a full continuum of care, including apartments for residential and assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing care and rehabilitation.
