Therapy Cap Plan Falls Apart in Congress
The plan to include an extension to the Medicare part B therapy cap exceptions process in a comprehensive jobs bill was derailed this week when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that he would not support the bill drafted in the Senate Finance Committee, but would support a much scaled-down version that does not include either the therapy caps exception process or the fix to the 21% reduction in physician payments. The political pressure to fix both the therapy and physician payment issues is very strong, but is complicated by the fact that Congress lost a week due to the blizzards that hit Washington and are out this week for the Presidents Day recess. Congress must act by March 1, to avoid the significant cut in physician payments going into effect, and this is our best opportunity to pass the therapy fix. To act today on this important issue, contact your Member of Congress! Please click here to tell your Representative and Senators that the therapy cap must be extended!
