Northwest Ohio Facilities Send Aid to Iraqi
Children
A group of
northwest Ohio area nursing facilities and suppliers got together this Spring
and decided to reach out to the children of Iraq, working with an organization
that builds and supplies specialized pediatric wheelchairs for disabled
children; each wheelchair costs $300. Up to now, the families of these children
carry them everywhere they go. Several facilities held bake sales and special
“dress down” days to raise money for the effort. Harborside of Point Place held
a pie throwing contest with Administrator Freda Cerny acting as the target. In
all, a total of $3300.00 was raised for the effort, meaning that eleven families
will no longer have to carry their child from place to place. The following
nursing facilities and suppliers took part in the campaign: Blakely Care of
Bowling Green, Bowling Green Manor, Franciscan Care Center, Harborside of Point
Place, Heartland of Waterville, Mobile Care Center, Ottawa County Riverview
Healthcare, Progressive Therapy, Ursuline Center. In addition, a special
collection was held in March at a meeting of local nursing facilities where all
that attended contributed $20.00 per person. For those that might want to
contribute or get more information regarding this project, please go to www.wheelchairsforiraqikids.com.
