Workers' Compensation Group Rating Program In 1991, the Ohio Health Care Association developed a group rating program for workers' compensation. Group rating is an alternative rating program designed by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) that allows employers to pay much lower premiums than they would pay on an individual basis. Group rating allows companies in similar industries to join together through a sponsoring organization and be rated as a group. Although all group rating programs are approved by the Ohio BWC, few can offer the savings and stability of The Ohio Health Care Association’s Group Rating Program. Benefits of the OHCA Group Rating Program Since our inception, the OHCA Group Rating program has saved our members more than $62 million in premiums—that’s an average of nearly $4 million per year. Unlike many programs, the OHCA Group Rating program offers a variety of direct savings and shared savings tiers. They range from a 30% credit to a 93% credit--the maximum discount allowed by the Ohio BWC for 2006. Our 93% credit tier was specifically designed to compete with the often high-performing, non-homogonous group rating programs available through local business associations and Chambers of Commerce. But unlike those programs who will "un-invite" organizations who fall outside group rating parameters, OHCA group members know that when they join the OHCA Group Rating Program, they have the added security of the OHCA Safety Development Group (SDG). In the event a member’s performance falls below pool requirements, SDG kicks in with minor savings for the member and a host of comprehensive services designed to help improve the member’s performance so it will become eligible for group rating once again. OHCA goes above and beyond with services like SDG because our business is the long-term care business. And, even when it comes to savings through group rating, no service is too great for our members. CompManagement Incorporated (CMI), a leader in group rating administration and workers' compensation services, administers the OHCA group, which includes nursing facilities, assisted living communities and intermediate care facilities. From late summer to late fall each year, employers have the option of requesting a free, no-obligation quote from all group rating programs.
