Peer Mentoring:
A Workshop Series for Direct-Care Workers in Home and Residential Care

This is a curriculum to train direct care workers who are prospective mentors. The peer mentoring curriculum focuses on three skill areas: leadership, communications, and problem-solving. The eight three-hour modules prepare mentors to: 1) Model good caregiving skills, including a person-centered focus; 2) Model effective communications and problem-solving skills; 3) Help the mentor develop problem-solving skills; 4) Support the mentee to build confidence in his or her abilities; 5) Give mentees constructive feedback; and 6) Provide mentees with current information about job responsibilities and the workplace. The curriculum is highly interactive and learner-focused, using case studies and role plays to build skills. The facilitator's guide includes module goals, learning outcomes, step-by-step activity guides, and all necessary handouts.
