Long-term Care Survey Binder with Quarterly Updates from CMS with annual subscription
The October 2010 edition contains these changes:
• CMS issued some brief changes in Transmittals 52 (Sept. 2009), 54 (Nov. 2009), and 55 (Dec. 2009) that affected the revised F441. These changes were included in the December 2009 reprint, but were not extensive enough to warrant a new edition:
• PP-768, end of the first paragraph (F441): Delete “through the air.” The sentence now reads “…MRSA is transmitted person-to-person (most common) and on inanimate objects.”
• PP-768, 2nd sentence from end in last paragraph (F441): the proportions of water to bleach were reversed. It should now read “…sodium hypochlorite (one part bleach to nine parts water) will also reduce….”
• PP-789, bullet point at top of page (F441): Delete “and had to be hospitalized for dehydration” at the end of the last sentence.
• Change in infection control standards for fingerstick devices and blood glucose meters (F441). The example in F441 has been changed. Effective Aug. 27, 2010
• Appendix P: QM/QI reports will be unavailable for use in the Traditional Survey process. Tasks 1-5C will be temporarily changed for the Traditional Survey Process. Both changes are effective Oct. 1, 2010.
• Appendix P: references to RAPs now refer to CAAs. OSCAR reports are now CASPER reports. Effective Oct. 1, 2010.
• Appendix PP: Guidelines were changed to reflect changes from MDS 2.0 to MDS 3.0. Effective Oct. 1, 2010
• Forms 672, 802, and 805 (Section VI) have been revised. Effective Oct. 1, 2010.
Earlier changes (Nov. 2004-September 2009) include CMS changes in pressure ulcers, incontinence and catheter care, medical directors, activities and the activity director, quality assessment and assurance, psychosocial outcomes guide (in Appendix P), unnecessary drug, immunization requirements, pharmacy, accidents and supervision, paid feeding assistants, nutrition and sanitary conditions, quality of life and environment (culture change) issues, infection control, and technical changes (August 18, 2005). As CMS issues new updates, AHCA will update this book every quarter.
Future updates (2011?) include:
• Feeding Tubes
• End-of-life and Advance Directives
• Abuse and Neglect (F223 and F226)
All the requirements for long term care facilities’ participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs are included:
• Section I: Regulations (42 CFR Part 483, Subpart B—Requirement for LTC Facilities)
• Section II: Alphabetical Index (comprehensive index of Appendix P, Appendix PP, and Exhibits)
• Section III: Survey Protocol (The Certification Process, 2712-2716)
• Section IV: Appendix P, Survey Procedures
• Section V: Appendix PP Guidance to Surveyors (in table format with separate columns for F-tags,
Regulations, and Guidance so you can see at a glance how each relates to the other)
• Section VI: Exhibits and Forms
All CMS changes since late 2004 (beginning with pressure ulcer changes) are in red type. Sections are color-coded for easy reference (white, blue, yellow, and green paper). Detailed tables of contents are presented for Appendix P, Appendix PP, and Exhibits. A comprehensive alphabetical index (Section II) integrates Appendix P, Appendix PP, and Exhibits. Binder edition includes 12 months of free printed updates (your free subscription ends at the end of the 4th full quarter following date of purchase--i.e., if you bought the binder July 15 (3rd quarter), your free subscription would end Dec. 31 (4th quarter) of the following year. Updates are sent a maximum of once a quarter. Updates are only sent if CMS makes changes.
